Fleming Dog Proof Raccoon Trap - Orange
The Fleming Dog Proof Raccoon Trap features a fully enclosed dog proof design with powerful double coil springs, a pull only trigger system, hand guard for setting the trap and a straight spade staking system.
The hand guard is designed to help you set the trap without using a set tool. The Dog Proof Trap Set Tool (sold separately) is also great to have in your trappers pack since the springs are very strong and if you set very many traps this will help.

God Bless you for reading that with your children. That story has a very special place in my heart and always will. Not only was it the first book I ever read as a child, but I could relate so well to the characters within. Growing up poor in the Heart of the Alabama Blackbelt (Central Alabama) region we were what some folks like to call land wealthy. We were Blessed to have an abundance of property on which to hunt and we still own that land to this very day. Other than work around the farm the only other "extra curricular activities" (as the late, great, Mr. Jerry Clower used to say) we engaged in was to go hunting. We trapped also but that was back when you could get a few dollars for the pelt of a racoon, beaver, and the like. What was good about coon hunting was that the season never went out. Although we didn't have a pack of hounds we sure had some good ones over the years and that is how I acquired my affinity for dogs. There was a particular puppy I wanted to buy real bad when I was about eleven or twelve years old. Just like the young man in the story, I had to work and save all of the money I earned mowing grass for two summers to purchase one of these puppies form the breeder. This puppy I bought was an English Bulldog. He was the grandson of the then, Georgia Bulldog's mascot UGA 4. The breeder felt pity towards me and sold me my pup for a discounted sum of one thousand and seven hundred dollars. I worked and worked and saved and saved and when I finally had all the money required I promptly went to give the lady payment and then had to patiently wait for the next litter to be born. This Lady knew I was sincere and allowed me to have the pick of the litter. I was extremely grateful to her and I still am today for the kindness she showed me. When the puppies were finally weaned off their mother I was told to come on by and get my dog. I chose what I considered to be the pick of the litter and named him UGA Four Stars grandson Vince Dooley. We called him Dooley! He was worth every penny. Now, I am an Alabama graduate and a dyed in the wool Alabama football fan but I am also a football fan in general and that is why I named my dog after Coach Dooley. Where the Red Fern Grows is and always will be a most special book to me. The movie was nowhere near as good as my imagination while reading. The greatest gift of all that I learned from the book was the value of reading. Reading is knowledge and knowledge is power. So good on you for reading to your children. I only wish more parents would take the time to do so with their children today. God Bless!

From my experience this needs adequate weight right on the pan to trigger... I tried to set the dog for dozens of times to test sensitivity, make no difference. Even when I believed it's set to be very sensitive, small raccoons pulled the tap out and played with it, no set-off. Any advice?

i actually melt my wax on top of my bucket of water boiling, maybe 4 inches deep of floating wax..then let my trap sit on bottom, in the water, to get hot and slowly pull it up thru the wax and give it a shake.. . that stops the wax from getting too thick a layer. also i stick a nail between the trap jaws to seal those edges of steel smell too. then after they cool they go straight in my trap bag full of fall leaves and maybe a squirt of fox piss to be stored outdoors til trapping time to keep them from smelling human.

I just bought a dozen of this exact same trap and the dog seems to be too short. When the trap is set the pan sticks up way too high, not even close to level. I've been trapping for several years and these are my first Dukes. You shouldn't have to modify or fix new traps staight out of the box...
